What is TMJ?

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ) is a common diagnosis which is caused by myofascial restrictions in the body that alter the alignment of the jaw. This condition causes a series of symptoms such as jaw tightness and pain, headaches, neck pain, as well as difficulty eating, chewing and biting.

If you grind your teeth at night, chances are you have noticeable restrictions of the fascial system. Many patients wear night-guards which provides a layer, or barrier, between the teeth in order to prevent them from breaking or wearing down. However, the night-guard does not stop the grinding or the other symptoms.

Myofascial Release is a leading and very successful treatment for TMJ. We evaluate each patient thoroughly and treat all fascial restrictions in the body in order to return them to a pain free and functional lifestyle.
Some of the treatment techniques include, but are not limited to:

  • Balancing and realigning the pelvis and the spinal column
  • Releases to the jaw, face, head and neck
  • Intra-oral techniques (work inside the mouth)
  • Home exercises and stretches

Many patients report drastic improvement in a short period of time from this type of treatment. A large number of patients stop using their night-guards after being treated.
